Germain Financial, a Partner of St. James's Place Wealth Management, host a charity ball every year to raise funds for the St. James's Place Foundation. The event is a key part of their annual events calendar and is a prestigious evening that raises a huge amount of money. Michelle Germain approached us and asked for help with the web presence for their 2015 charity ball. She explained that the theme of the ball was to be based on the Erin Morgentern book 'The Night Circus' and as such, they wanted a website that could reflect this distinctive style and excite the users.
What we did
Being a charity site our budget for this project was very limited, but it still presented us with the opportunity to do something simple and elegant, with a few little treats hidden within the build. Our UX chaps immediately got to work creating a responsive site that captured the essence of the book's very specific style. We used subtle pieces of artwork placed on the homepage and then in titles and fixed to the base of the browser to build on the theme, and established a colour palette that reflected the dark blacks and vivid reds of the book's cover.
The site was developed to allow users to easily apply to be a sponsor or to attend the event, with calls to action prominently placed and a dynamic contact form allowing people to get in touch. It was also developed to be fully responsive for tablet and mobile devices, whilst retaining the quintessential look and feel of the theme.
Some delicate little touches were added for extra effect, such as twinkling stars on the homepage and a parallax effect when scrolling.
The charity site was launched on time and was able to be used as a key advertising and lead generation tool for tickets and sponsors. The complementary style of the site meant that it fitted in perfectly with the theme of the event and the client was delighted with how it promoted the event in such an accurate way.
Looks fab. Well done to you and your team. Michelle Germain, Germain Financial
